Ceramic Vase | Wood Fired Barnacle Sculpture / VaseRegular price $275.00
Handcrafted "Wood Fired Barnacle Sculpture" from Meghan Bergman Ceramics. Hand built, with high fire clay, shino liner, fired to Cone 10 in a wood-fired kiln.
Wood-fired ceramics bring another variable to the final work of art: thinking about the perfect placement in the kiln, the firing cycle, the type of wood used. There is a deep connection to nature, as wood is used to stoke and heat the kiln to Cone 10 temperatures, requiring round-the-clock tending by a team of potters on a regimented schedule. The ash and carbon trappings from the wood melts into a beautiful exterior over a 3 day firing cycle, and the resulting subtleties make this barnacle sculpture a treasure to admire from every angle.
When you want to bring the 'coastal' vibe to your home, office, or beach house, this ocean inspired ceramic barnacle vase will make a fine focal point or accent in your home decor.

📖 THE PROCESS
Organic objects and underwater life inspire me. I enjoy bringing the extreme texture and movement found underneath the sea to the surface of my ceramic artwork. Each treasure looks as if it has been taken from the sea.
This handmade pottery starts as a single ball of clay, and a tall sculpture form is formed by hand. Texture is added and the foot is created. Next dozens of barnacles are meticulously handmade and attached to the piece, inspired by underwater life and is ready to #admire from every angle. Finishing touches are added with shells attached to the face of the piece. After drying, the piece was carefully loaded into the kiln and was bisque fired, then just a liner glaze is applied. The final firing required round-the-clock tending by a team of potters on a regimented schedule. The ash and carbon trappings from the wood melts into a beautiful exterior over a 3 day firing cycle, transforming this vessel into a final work of art.
