📖 THE PROCESS:
This handmade vessel starts as a single ball of clay, and a tall sculpture is formed by hand. Texture is added and the foot is created. Next dozens of barnacles are meticulously handmade and attached to the piece, inspired by underwater life and is ready to #admire from every angle. Finishing touches are added with shells attached to the face of the piece. After drying, the piece was carefully loaded into the kiln and was bisque fired, then just a liner glaze is applied.
Wood-fired ceramics bring another variable to the final work of art: thinking about the perfect placement in the kiln, the firing cycle, the type of wood used. There is a deep connection to nature, as wood is used to stoke and heat the kiln to Cone 10 temperatures, requiring round-the-clock tending by a team of potters on a regimented schedule. The ash and carbon trappings from the wood melts into a beautiful exterior over a 3 day firing cycle, and the resulting subtleties make this barnacle sculpture a treasure to admire from every angle.

Can I put ceramic ware into the dishwasher or microwave?
Yes! All of my functional pottery is made with food safe glazes and is safe to use in the microwave, or dishwasher. I do recommend hand washing barnacle cups/mugs because of they are more delicate. Our family has been using some of my own personal collection of handcrafted mugs for over 10 years!
How can I use your barnacle cups?

Gift wrapping and packaging
When you order handcrafted ceramics, I want you or your loved ones to be excited to open a one-of-a-kind treasure. I personally wrap every piece of pottery, and include tissue paper, a handwritten thank you, and well wishes.
♻️ In an effort to be more sustainable, I use a honeycomb paper wrap which is a sustainable, biodegradable, and recyclable solution to traditional bubble wrap. (As a ceramics artist bubble wrap is somewhat unavoidable for my most delicate pieces, but I will also try and reuse lightly used packing materials wherever possible).
