Handcrafted "Red Iron Oxide Barnacle Teapot" set from Meghan Bergman Ceramics. Hand thrown, with white stoneware, and fired in an electric kiln. Includes teapot, two yunomi style tea cups and a tray.
Nothing warms the soul quite like a hot cup of tea. This teapot was thrown on the pottery wheel and altered. Similar to my barnacle cups, the piece is faced with shells, texture, and attached with a large barnacle handle, then for the final firing, glazes are applied.
🫖 Teapots have a special place in many cultures from English afternoon tea to Japanese Tea ceremonies. Ready to brew your favorite green, rooibos, black, herbal, or any tea, this barnacle teapot is beautiful and functional.
APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS: (Teapot with tray & cups) 9"L x 14"W x 7.5"H.

📖 THE PROCESS:
This handmade teapot starts as a single ball of clay, and the teapot, lid, and spout are thrown on the potter's wheel and attached to the piece. Next, texture is added and a large barnacle is handmade and attached to the piece to serve as the handle, inspired by underwater life and is ready to #admire from every angle. Finishing touches are with shells attached to the face of the piece. Gentle curves around each barnacle also serve as a function to catch the drippy glazes.
After drying, the piece is carefully loaded into the kiln and is bisque fired, then underglaze and sea glass is added to the piece, and the piece is stilted on its side in the kiln for the sea glass to melt and drip in the second glaze firing to transform into a work of art.
